Being a Bartender in Belin?

Hallo alle zusammen

I'm Australian and I absolutely love Germany for reason, enough that I'm considering moving there for about a year on some form of work visa. From what I've heard though getting a job in Berlin is especially hard :/

Is working as a bartender sustainable in Berlin or is it not possible? I plan on studying up to B2 German here in Melbourne before moving out.

I'd probably just live in hostels and try to rent a shared apartment.

Cheer mates.

With B2 german you'll already be a cut above most Australians here. Cafe jobs are slightly easier to find than bar jobs, but if you have experience you'll be fine. I will advise you that you need a fixed address to begin working in Germany. Good luck!

Nice, someone learning the language before moving abroad. All the best to you, hope it works out for you!

Most important question is: what does it mean for you to work as a bartender? Because there are bartenders and bartenders... Do you have the recipes for the 15 most important drinks in mind and you're able to prepare and serve them with closed eyes? Then you won't have any problems at all... If not, it's still a possibility but really depending on the season. In summer it's quite easy to find a job like this, in autumn you maybe get fired, maybe not. In winter it could be hard to find a job in this field...

Yes it is - been doing it these past three years whilst doing (slowly) my MA here. Still relatively cheap costs of living and great tips meant that I only had to do a 2-3 a week to get by. Language is a different matter entirely though - you will find that with a B2 level you will still need a year or two, and that's making an actual effort to learn as you go, before you can get a German-speaking job. There are plenty of expats in Berlin, and a lot of places with only English speaking staff - but I'd say they tend to be rather restaurants and cafes than bars. And the locals tend to find them slightly annoying. It's totally possible to find a job speaking English - but with fluent German the possibilities rise by like.... A lot.

You never have been in Germany, but love ... Berlin isn't typical for Germany... Bartender is your only idea for having a living...

Think about it.

"Some form of work visa"

You should start by clarifying that part. The working holiday visa might work.
